This 50-hour Certificate of Attendance Intensive Online Review course will prepare healthcare interpreters for both oral certification exams (CMI & CHIâ„¢) via a simulated environment. Students will have the opportunity to take an initial self-diagnostic and other online quizzes with focus on the following modules: audio-visuals, worksheets, checklists, quizzes, audio-recordings for role-play practice, role-play self-assessment forms and language coaching. Students review tips on test taking techniques, general vocabulary, how to best use memory aids, and will practice interpretation skills in the various interpreting modes, according to the time frames similar to those used on the certification exam. Throughout the course students will be provided with opportunities for guided self-assessment tools for accuracy, completeness and flow of interpretation from the recorded exercises. Instructors will provide students with feedback based on completed exercises and role-play sessions. Upon course completion, students may choose to schedule individualized language coaching sessions (up to 2-hours) to review and practice interpreting skills in areas of need. This course is currently available in Spanish. Additional languages, such as: Arabic, Cantonese, Korean, Mandarin, Russian, and Vietnamese are anticipated to be available in the coming months. This course was designed by a multidisciplinary team lead by a certified healthcare interpreter (CHIâ„¢ & CMI). The course is approved by the American Translators Association (ATA) for 10 Continuing Education Points and by the International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA) for 5 Continuing Education Units.
